Behal Secondary School
Dientzenhofer Realschule

The Institute of Art and Design is one of the ten Institutes making up the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology. It is the main provider of vocational education and training in the local creative sector. With over 800 students following courses at different levels, the Institute of Art and Design offers a range of programmes aimed at learners wishing to develop their creative talents. The Institute of Art and Design offers generic courses in Art and Design leading to more specialist programmes, including Graphic Design, 3D Design, Fine Art, Interactive Media, Photography and Media (Moving Image). Students following these courses are encouraged to nurture their creative abilities through the development of a variety of assignments and projects.

Our school which is called 'Dientzenhofer Realschule' is a secondary modern school in the Bavarian Alps and currently a bit less than 800 pupils attend our school. As we are the only school between the German border in the south and the city of Rosenheim we cover quite a large area. The school lies within a very rural region with a lot of smaller villages, so most of our pupils are dependent on buses or trains in order to get to school. Only a few of our pupils had the chance to make a school exchange or to spend some time abroad. At our school, a wide range of different educational targets are possible. Pupils can choose whether they like to do Mathematics as one of their main subjects, or they can choose economical studies; French as a second foreign language or home economics. Four fully equipped computer rooms are also available to teach pupils information technology beginning with class 7. Besides the basic lessons we offer a variety of additional and voluntary activities. We have immigrants coming from Turkey, Italy, former Republic of Yugoslavia and Spain. A few pupils with special needs would like to know more about Europe. About sixty teachers are working there. Our school has various contacts with regional museums such as the Museum Markus Wasmeier Freilichtmuseum Schliersee, where the pre-industrial area was conserved. There is a strong interest to let our pupils cooperate  with museums all over Europe and to get in touch with other people.

Behal secondary school is a 'Lycee d'enseignement general et technologique' (general and technological highschool) with around 800 students. It is part of a great scholar city which includes also a vocational school, a lifelong learning school and an apprenticeship school. It's located in an ancient coal mining region in Northern France, ground of immigration also coming from Poland, Italy and Northern Africa. Our school provides general curricular to baccalaureate: litterary, economic and social, and scientific (both biology and engeneering sciences). It provides also a technological courses: industrial technology, sanitary and social technology and management technology. It provides also superior curricular (2 years post baccalaurete): BTS (diploma in superior technician), industrial maintenance, electrical technico commercial and gestion. The school has mainly students issued from very defavorized categories (about 70%). About hundred teachers are working there. The school has lost around 1,000 pupils and 80 teachers within the last 8 years. Young people rather choose to go in schools with better image. Nevertheless, Behal secondary school always does its best to help pupils to get their diploma. The exam results are the same as the other schools of the Academy. Since 2012, new opportunities appeared with the classification of our region to UNESCO world patrimony. This led to the great opening of the great museum, Le Louvre. This helped us create a 'creation of culture design class' in our school.
